One of the many ways to understand Mike Mentzer′s HIT |
 |

 |

 |
One of the ways to understand Mike Mentzer is to study the 7 Principles of Bodybuilding regarding: 1-Identity 2-Intensity 3-Duration 4-Frequency 5-Specificity 6-Adaptation; and, 7-Progression.
Only then do we proceed in applying his method.
The principles are throughly discussed in High Intensity Training the Mike Mentzer Way, copyright 2003, distributed thru mikementzer.com.
Just a tip, boys. (",)

Great post, although I still don′t understand completely number 1, identity. I am greatly familiar with intensity, duration, etc. from a bodybuilding perspective.

Identity is used to describe the nature of something, and as such what it can and cannot do because of its nature. For example, a man cannot flap his arms and fly because hes not a bird, his lungs cannot breath underwater because hes not a fish, a rock cannot write a book because it has no brain, eyes or hands, etc etc

Thanks for the example, HITpadawan. I still don′t see its relevance to bodybuilding per se. Do I have a "wimp" nature if I can bench 150 rather than a "strongman" nature who can do 400lbs. Human nature can′t change but the variability of man and his behaviour is immense. Ayn Rand was incredibly deep thinker, no Aristotle, but a great influence.
