Neurological IN-efficiency

Hey folks,

Just wanted to post something I think I′ve confirmed, I′ve posted many times how I just don′t gain from single set to failure. I′ve tried and tried and TRIED! Lately I′ve been doing more convential training and gaining. This was very confusing. I thought that maybe I am neurologically INefficient. Now I am sure of it.

A buddy of mine that lives in Australia does single set to failure, and I was amazed that his muscles are tired for days and even get very sore from this! If I do a single set to failure, my muscles are raring to go an hour later! :-O I now believe that for some reason, I just cannot do much depletion/damage with one set, even IF it′s to failure!

Anyone else have this experience?

No I′m wasted after a set. Perhaps you need to determine the right number of reps to do. Do you know if you′re fast or slow twitch. It sounds like you are mostly slow. THis would mean higher reps and not higher sets.

Have you tried higher reps?

Hey Ferrarri-

Man, I′ve tried all rep ranges, and here is the weird thing, if I do higher reps like 10 or above, it makes the muscle more tired, but I never progress, I hit a solid sticking point and/or regress very soon. With lower reps 5-6 and single progression, I can progress well on strength but gain no size or even lose size if I do single sets. That′s why I′ve tried the single set stuff so much, it makes sense so I tried every option but for some reason it never worked! Maybe I′m an alien LOL.

I have a friend who started lifting years ago weighing about 130 pounds, when he graduated high school he had a 25 inch waist, he′s done the hard gainer thing the whole time, he too didn′t have good results with single sets, so he did 5×5 and stuff like that. Now he is HUGE, he′s always been completely natural, won′t even take supplements. His arms are 17+, he′s squatted well over 500 etc. So this winter he talked me into trying 5×5 and damned if I didn′t start putting on size again, very weird man!
